Effects of Temperature , Light and Mechanical Treatment on the Seed Germination of Chrysanthemum coronarium L .

Abstract
Some effects on the seed germination were investigated in Chrysanthmum coronarium L. Optimum temperature for germination ranged 15 to 20¡É when seeds were exposed to the constant temperature. Although the alternating temperature stimulated seed to germinate faster at 30/25¡É, the germination rates were highest at the alternating temperature of 25/15¡É. Light or dark did not show any significant difference on seed germination. Only slight increases were observed in low temperature treatment at 5¡É for more than 30 days, and GA©ý, kinetin, and thiourea treatment after exposure to low temperature resulted in a little improvement on germination rate. Removal of the pericarp was proved to be effective in promoting germination.
