Effects of Temperature , Light and Mechanical Treatment on the Seed Germination of Chrysanthemum coronarium L .

Abstract

|
Some effects on the seed germination were investigated in Chrysanthmum coronarium L. Optimum temperature for germination ranged 15 to 20℃ when seeds were exposed to the constant temperature. Although the alternating temperature stimulated seed to germinate faster at 30/25℃, the germination rates were highest at the alternating temperature of 25/15℃. Light or dark did not show any significant difference on seed germination. Only slight increases were observed in low temperature treatment at 5℃ for more than 30 days, and GA₃, kinetin, and thiourea treatment after exposure to low temperature resulted in a little improvement on germination rate. Removal of the pericarp was proved to be effective in promoting germination.
